Elements in Play

Elements are important in plays. For me in a play the language is important as it determines your understanding. The Oedipus Rex play was easy for me to understand the language because the script has been translated. If the original version of the play is given I am sure I would have trouble in understanding the play as it would have been a “foreign” language for me.

I agree with Rachel that the language of the play is an important element that will determines our understanding of the play. The plays that we are assigned to study in this semester are “Oedipus Rex”, “Antony and Cleopatra”, “A Streetcar Named Desire” and “30 Days of September”. For me, “30 Days of September is most easy to understand, the language is much simpler compared to other texts. “Antony and Cleopatra” is the most difficult text to understand, like what Rachel written, it would have been a ‘foreign’ language for me; however, I think the book that we are using is a very good book chosen by Dr. Edwin, the footnotes in the book provided us all the definition according to the background of the play. Sometimes, we might not even get the appropriate meaning if we refer to the dictionary. Besides that, the background of the play also plays an important role for us to understand the play better. I’m glad that Dr. Edwin always provides the background knowledge of each play to us in his teaching. By understand the background, we can also understand some of the cultural and words used in the play.

Well i quite agree with Rachel that elements are important in a play. but in my ppoint of view i would say that the setting plays an important role in a play. Through setting we will be able to identify the idea of the play and it will give us better understanding. For instance through the setting in the play "A Streetcar Named Desire" we will able to identify the people that will be in the play. So rachel, in my point of view i feel that Setting plays an important in a play.

In this movie, there was an exposure on the Shakespearean’s play. According to me in this movie, there was a difference between the actors of the play and the actors of a movie. In this movie, the acting of the actors was emphasis in a play on Shakespeare’s story. According to me, in the Shakespeare’s time the acting was important. The expression and emotion is considered important. At the same moment, the movie shows whether the people are more interested to watch a play or movie. In this movie, the people who acted in the Shakespearean’s play show their efficiency but the people who acted in the movie does not show their efficiency. As an overall of the movie, shows the peoples’ are more into and give importance for the Shakespearean’s play.

i agree with you rachel, that language is an important element in a play.if the language is hard we will have difficulities in understanding the poem and we wont enjoy the poem no matter how interesting it is.other than the language i would also say that characters are also important in a play.
