cycle of life

The sphinx riddle " What goes on four legs in the morning, two at noon, and three at evening?".
from my understanding, the first one on four legs is baby and that the early stage. This is because babies crawl on two legs and two hands and " in the morning" suggest early or the beginning. " two at noon" is when man stands straight up wit both his leg and noon suggest in between or in the middle. So this is the period between being young and old. the last " three in the evening" suggest that the aman i s old and he needs a walking stick to walk. In William Shakespeares ‘ As you like it’, man has seven stages. The first one is an infant, second as a school boy, third as a lover, fourth as a soldier, fifth as a justice, sixth as lean and slipper’d pantaloon and finally second as childishness and mere oblivion. In Shakespeare’s point of view, man has seven stages. This shows that Sophocles and Shakespear has different point of view because they from different era of time and has different view on life

Elements in Play

Elements are important in plays. For me in a play the language is important as it determines your understanding. The Oedipus Rex play was easy for me to understand the language because the script has been translated. If the original version of the play is given I am sure I would have trouble in understanding the play as it would have been a “foreign” language for me.

reflection on tutorial

During the first tutorial i did not really understand the activity caried out. The instruction wasnt clear but somehow i manage to deal with it. The play, Oedipus Rex, was not har for me to understand as i have passion for Greek myths. It was an interesting play an i enjoyed reading the play. the tutorial session made it easier for me to understand the play better. The myth elements in the play such as the Gods, oracle and charcter got my attention. The plot was obvious to the audience but to Oedipus he seemed to "blind" towards all the hints that been given by the Teiresias and the messenger. The twist in the play fpr me was when Oedipus found out that he married his mother. Overall the tutorial session was help me to understand Oedipus the King.

reflection on lecture

We did an activity from the Now Read On book. It was a pair work and i was paired with Priya. the class were suppose to out a scene and unfortunately we were called out as the first pair to perfome. we were not sure of what to do and how we were suppose to act it out. So obviosly we were blurr and made a mess out of it. we missed some stage direction such as " drink". However, the setting is supposedly in a bar but when we were questioned, we somehow got "petrified" so we end up answering coffee shop. we were suppose to be two writers sitting at the bar and one of the writer was bieng nosy and the other was interestedin "splling out" the information.
How ever the 1 minute fame did not last long but i have learned alot. As in how different setting and different moods and characters make a different story.
